Sick of High Gas Prices ? Tired of being pushed around by big oil? Want things to change? Get moving ! Here are some things YOU can do now about the high price of gasoline and other fuels.

Live in the city? Don’t have a car? Invest in public transportation. Buy a bus pass. Can’t afford it? Buy bus tickets. Still out of reach? Walk. Call the transit people and get them to improve. Go to meetings. Vote for good public transit plans. Find out if they are good. Vote for people with a track record of actually doing something about public transportation. If they steal the money from your funding, find a way to get them convicted.

Live in the suburbs, or a small town? Or out in the country? Have a car? Is it diesel? You have a great situation! If you want to go the easy way (the one that takes the least time), go to the nearest biofuel station. Here is a map for the whole state. You don’t have to do anything but change your fuel. The price won’t drop right away, but for the same price, you can send a message to the big oil companies that you have had enough of their price gouging, refusal to modernize and pollution.

If you live too far from a ready made biofuel station, get some friends to form a co-op with you, and start your own fuel station. This is how they did it in Olympia. Find a place you can make the fuel. Arrange with fast food joints to pick out their used cooking oil, and filter out the junk. Follow these directions.

If you live on a farm, and already grow canola or other crops that are made into oil, you could arrange with the oil producers to convert part of your crop for you to make into fuel. Then follow the directions above.

So, you have a car, but not diesel. Okay, there are several ways to go. Electric Conversion: Don’t try it unless you know your way around cars. Fuel Alcohol: This is more complex than many other fuels. Here is an introduction you might want to read. You might have heard about ethanol, which can be misleading. The state of Washington has passed a law encouraging the addition of 20% fuel alcohol to gasoline in this state. This is very low, but it is a start. This can be used in your regular vehicle. If you want to make your own fuel (don’t run afoul of the law!): You need to be a real mechanic for this.

And here is something so new, I’m not sure of it. A compressed air car.

Okay, let’s get on with other situations: Solar-- Solar Washington and

Passive can be anything from a coiled black hose covered with a black tarp on the roof of your house to a green house. For active, you can get solar panels made right here in Washington.

Wind--

Use biodiesel or Biomass for home heating

Is it all perfect? No, but this is a start to your independence. Do what you can and help other too. Let’s get this state as energy independent as possible, and let’s not wait around for permission from the oil companies. After all, it was ONE man who bought a wildly painted hippy bus and used it to start his own bus route from Pullman to Moscow. He embarassed the city into getting a nice regular bus route set up between the two cities. See what you can do.
